Gynaecology

‘Women shouldn’t settle for second best when it comes their health’ – Tania Adib

Whether it’s troublesome periods, PMS, or the menopause, our gynaecological health has a huge impact on our wellbeing. If something is not right, it can affect our relationships, happiness, even our success at work.

Many women in the UK, even those of us who take good care of ourselves in other ways, don’t prioritise our gynaecological health.

We aim to offer women a comprehensive check-up allowing invaluable peace of mind, with the knowledge they are receiving gold-standard care from an experienced consultant gynaecologist who has trained at London’s leading teaching hospitals.

We offer wide-ranging checks for gynaecological conditions, including:

  • Checks for cervical and ovarian cancers
  • Full breast examination
  • Sexually transmitted infections
  • Vaginal imbalances
  • Endometriosis
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Fibroids
  • Premature menopause

What we can offer women in an appointment:

Detailed health history

A first appointment will include a detailed health history, including a full blood count to check hormone levels and ovarian reserves, as well as check for markers associated with cancer. We can also perform ultrasound-scans as required. If there is a need, referrals for further treatment will be made within 24 hours. Emergency appointments are also available. Please contact Lucy XXX for further details.

Cancer check

A yearly gynaecological check-up can guard against female cancers – statistics indicate that countries where women regularly see a gynaecologist as part of their routine healthcare have better survival rates from cervical and ovarian cancer. As gynae-oncology is one of my specialisms, I feel passionately that fast detection is key to beating these diseases.

Colposcopy

Many patients come to me due to concerns over cervical cancer. Often, they wish to have peace of mind after an abnormal smear. As a clinical lead in colposcopy, I can take a biopsy in clinic, and of in some cases, treat abnormal cells there and then.

Female health MOT

Visiting a gynaecologist is not just about life-threatening diseases. Many female health problems can creep up slowly – such as painful sex, polycystic ovary syndrome, heavy or irregular periods and endometriosis or menopausal symptoms. They can affect quality of life considerably. The good news is, once they are diagnosed, effective treatments are available.

Hormonal Check

Hormonal imbalance can be a problem which robs women of their confidence and wellbeing, often affecting appearance and mood. The most common hormonal imbalance is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) which causes a range of symptoms, such as heavy or irregular periods, excess hair on the body and face and cystic acne – large painful spots which often appear on the jawline, cheeks, chin and upper neck. Thankfully, there are treatments to help distressing condition.

Contraception advice and coil fitting

Ensuring patients are prescribed the right contraception and reviewing any side-effects, is also an important part of what we do. Patients can choose from contraceptive implant, intrauterine system, or IUS intrauterine device, IUD (the coil), contraceptive injection, the pill, contraceptive patch or vaginal ring. Women’s needs alter as they become older. It’s important to have good communication with your doctor, which will help you get the best contraception method for you.

Menopause care and HRT

Menopause is an area where we are committed to offering women the very best and up-to-date care with both hormonal and non-hormonal treatments, including Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) as well as laser and radio frequency treatments for Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM).

Non-Hormonal Menopause Treatments

One of our clinic’s special interests in offering those who have been affected with cancer the best advice and treatment in managing the physical and emotional side effects from their treatments. We welcome patients who would like advice on how we can alleviate side-effects.

Finding a gynaecologist you trust, who can offer continuity of care and a full understanding of your body and health is one of the most important steps you will take for your wellbeing.
